Quickstart Guide (Teachers)

Here's our guide to help you get up and running in just minutes. Start by logging in at https://app.altr.com.au/login

Once you've been invited to the ALTR platform by your school Administrator/Principal/Deputy, you will receive an e-mail with details about how to setup your account. Click on the link in the e-mail and complete the account setup process. Learn more.
Dashboard: This screen gives you all your most important information at a glance. You can see how students in your classroom are performing, when the next test is scheduled, you can view the test details, look at student profiles, see previous test results and quickly identify students who may require additional support to get up to speed.
Administering tests: You will receive a reminder e-mail the week before a test is scheduled and when you're ready to administer a test, you simply click 'Test now' to view the test details while referring to the ALTR Assessment Maual (which you can download here) and administer the test as per the instructions provided. Testing should take no longer than 2-3 minutes per student and results (along with any additional comments or negative observations) are entered directly into ALTR, along with whether or not the student passed the test or will need to repeat the test. Add teachers: This can be done by manually adding them with first name, last name, e-mail address, year group and classroom name, or by importing an Excel file. Learn more.
Add students: This can also be done manually or by importing an Excel file, then students can easily be assigned to a teacher/classroom. Learn more.
Visit the Settings section to make any changes you see fit such as altering test dates (in case they clash with other school events) or exclude some tests if necessary. Learn more.

After the initial setup you will be presented with a brief tutorial to show you around the various sections of the platform.

How do I add a new student? Or import bulk students?

Adding a new student to your classroom can be done by a Principal/Deputy Principal or Teacher by following these steps:

Login and go to the 'Students' tab, and select the 'Add New Student' button.

Enter the necessary information (name, gender, teacher, classroom, etc.) and click 'Add Student'.

The new student will now be added to the system and will be visible immediately within the selected teacher's dashboard.

| Note: By design only the first three letters of the student's surname can be entered to ALTR to help with privacy within the system.

Students can also be added using the 'Import CSV Students' option, which allows you to add multiple students to the class in one go.

You can download the sample sheet using the “Template” option, as a CSV or Excel file. You can then populate student details in the downloaded sample file.

How do I administer a test and record results?

Administering tests using the ALTR platform is quick and easy and most tests should take less than 2 minutes per student. Here are some tips to help you test your students efficiently:

Administer all tests for the 1 level at once before moving on to other levels. While your classroom will likely have students at different test levels, it is most efficient to work through 1 level and complete all students currently at that level before moving on to other test levels. To do this, in your Dashboard, click 'Test Now' on the level that you are up to and then work through the list of students currently at that level. After completing that level, then move on to test other students at other levels. e.g. Those being re-tested.

Prior to administering a test, familiarise yourself with the test, check if you need additional resources (e.g. pieces of paper for writing tests) to administer the test and open your Asssessment Manual to the page of the test, or practice test if applicable. You can also click on 'Test' from the left-side menu to view the test details including the applicable page number in the Assessment Manual and view the list of students due to be tested.

How do I add a teacher?

To add a new teacher to your account:

Select 'Users' from the left-side menu.

Select 'Add new user' and enter the name, email, year group and class name and click 'Add User'.

The user will receive an e-mail inviting them to register for an account and upon completion, will be added to your ALTR account.
